Assignment Description

Over the semester our assessment requires us to re-imagine the Australian Capital Territory and produce a vision for the A.C.T. in the 21st century. Developing a strategy for the city and the national parliament which it houses, identifying the infrastructure relevant to a 21st century city and investigating appropriate architectural types for a city which represents Australia. From this basis we will ultimately produce an architectural proposal which seeks to address these issues and provide 'A Place for People'.

Proposed Transit Oriented Development Programme Map

The below map shows the programme of particular T.O.D's

Proposed Transit Oriented Development Programme

Proposed Light Rail Rapid Transit

The Map below is our proposed Light Rail rapid transit route including Transport Oriented Development nodes. The diagram also shows bus feeder services to the T.O.D. nodes as well as 5 & 10 minute walking distances to T.O.D's

Education Nodes

The map below list the major education nodes and possible connections through Canberra

Office Nodes

The map below list the major office nodes and possible connections through Canberra.

Future Infrastructure - High Speed Railway Line

The map below shows a potential high speed railway line passing through the Canberra International Airport. Linking this with the light rail / rapid transit will increase Canberra's connection with the rest of Australia.

Existing Infrastructure - Bike and Walking Trails

Linking the light rail and rapid transit with existing walking and cycling routes provides a strong basis for an integrated transport solution.

Canberra Infrastructure - Bus Services

Bus maps showing extensive public transport servicing most areas of Canberra. The low usage however suggest that their isn't enough incentive to use the current system. By introducing Light rail and rapid transit areas the speed of journeys can radically increase and move a greater number of people than buses alone. Rapid transit is also proven to increase density along transport corridors.

Canberra Age Demographic

Demographic map shows ballooning younger population. Cheaper accommodation closer to public transport would be appropriate to house this demographic.
