Assignment Description

Over the semester our assessment requires us to re-imagine the Australian Capital Territory and produce a vision for the A.C.T. in the 21st century. Developing a strategy for the city and the national parliament which it houses, identifying the infrastructure relevant to a 21st century city and investigating appropriate architectural types for a city which represents Australia. From this basis we will ultimately produce an architectural proposal which seeks to address these issues and provide 'A Place for People'.

Strategy Development

The overall intention of the design is to increase the connectivity and communication between the public and government. In order to achieve this both the people and government require a forum to communicate. For the government to communicate with the public and the public to provide feedback to the government there would be a 'public interface facility' where individuals are able to speak to government representatives who then communicate with the government. For the public to have an input into the decisions made by the government there would be a 'government consultation' where independent professionals are commissioned by the government to research and provide findings that inform the decisions made by the government. To complement these facilities there would be a 'conference centre' where public professionals and government ministers are able to speak to the public and government as well as a 'gallery and function area' for exhibitions funded by the government.
